Artist Bio
Ruth Linda Morton holds an honours computer science degree with a minor in fine art from the University of Guelph and worked in the technology industry for 30 years before exiting corporate life and becoming a full-time professional artist in 2025. Equally comfortable with a keyboard or a paint brush, her logical, process-happy side and creative, chaos-loving side inform each other, which is evident in her artistic process.
Ruth works mainly on wood panel with acrylic paint and begins each piece by pushing and pulling paint over the surface, creating random shapes and lines, sometimes adding torn bits of petal-infused paper to the surface. This free-style process helps her to tap into her creative spirit and provides movement and interest in the final composition. She works through many layers, highlighting and deepening until the image emerges. Finally, she’ll go in with fine brushes to sharpen the composition into focus.
Her garden provides continual inspiration for her work as does the Ontario landscape and her love of animals. Ruth works from her home studio in Guelph, Ontario.
